LEARN TO USE APPLICANT TRACKING SYSTEMS (ATS) TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
Learn to format and write your CV and cover letters to accommodate electronic scanning systems used by businesses to filter out irrelevant applications.
COVER LETTER PREPARATION
This workshop addresses the cover letter – an under utilized but important component of job applications that many applicants neglect to include. The addition of a cover letter gives you a competitive edge in the application process.
Students will leave the session having completed a CV and cover letter that they can use to apply for a desired position – and adjust for future positions.
A maximum of 4 participants in a workshop ensures that students benefit from individual attention addressing their unique needs and questions.

This workshop supports workforce newbies or seasoned professionals wishing to showcase their education, skills, and experience to their best advantage for a new position, promotion, or career change.
Over the past 25 years, Lynne has been a writing professor at American universities in the United States, Morocco, and most recently, the UAE, where she spent the last 15 years at the American University of Sharjah. Lynne has a host of publications on writing instruction and years of experience teaching academic writing, research skills, writing for business and for engineering, as well as training undergraduate writing tutors.
I attended the in-person CV and Cover Letter workshop. The workshop was very good, well-organised, and the teacher was very concise and clear with giving examples and explanations of how to improve my CV. I was provided a laptop to work on, which was helpful. It was useful to have opinions from an expert!

Who is this workshop meant for?
This workshop is meant for anyone who requires a new CV or a clearer or updated version of a current CV or a cover letter that enhances the prospects for a desired position: fresh graduates or graduates-to-be hoping to market their skills effectively; seasoned professionals seeking another position, promotion, or career change.
Where will the workshop be held?
When registering, you have the option of choosing online or in-person instruction.
We highly recommend you choose the in-person option. Why?
- Students enrolled in workshops that require specialized hardware or software will have those provided.
- Our four-person maximum per session permits social distancing.
- Interacting with classmates prompts creativity.
- In-person engagement with the instructor facilitates understanding.
If you choose the in-person option when registering, the workshop will be held at the BlueBay Tower in Business Bay, Dubai: Office 07, Floor 15, Blue Bay Business Center
- Blue Bay Tower is a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk from the Business Bay Metro Station. Paid parking is available in the building parking lot (visitor’s section). A public parking lot is situated next to the building as well.
Please note: if you choose the online option, you will need to insure:
- Your computer or laptop has the necessary specifications and software installed.
- Your internet connection is stable.
If you choose the online option, you will be emailed instructions for accessing the online instructional platform.
Should COVID 19 restrictions grow stricter in the future, we are prepared to use online-only platforms for training and will notify registrants for in-person workshops through email prior to the commencement of any such training.
Will I need to bring my own computer?
Students attending in-person workshops should bring their own laptops with Microsoft Office installed. Also, if you like to brainstorm using paper and pen / pencil, bring those along.
If you are unable to bring a laptop, please let us know in advance. Use our “Contact Us” form and choose “Training Inquiry” in the dropdown subject menu and provide your request for use of a computer along with your name and the session you have registered for. We will arrange a computer for your in-class work.
When and how do I pay?
Fees must be paid in full during the registration process.
Students can pay the fee via online credit card payment or bank transfer.
If you choose to pay through bank transfer, you will be sent an email containing an invoice with bank account details. Instructions will be provided in the email.
How can I best prepare for the workshop?
This workshop will be most effective if you come prepared with the following:
- the position requirements in terms of prior education and experience
- the position description and the position’s role in the organization
- the goals and culture of the employer or organization – their product or services, their representation on their website or on social media in terms of their values, and their status in their industry
- Thisknowledgewillbevaluableinevaluatingemployerfocusandgeneratingrelevant information for the CV and/ or cover letter.
Will there be homework?
Depending on how much you accomplish during Session One activities, you may need to spend a bit of time after Session One ends to complete a first draft of the CV or the cover letter to bring to Session Two for feedback, review, further development, and proofreading.
